Inaugural Chairman
The inaugural Chairman of the SMEC Foundation from 2001 to
2006 was Doug Price, A.M., who was Chief Executive of SMEC from 1975 to
1988. Doug graduated in civil engineering from the University of Sydney and
began his career with the Snowy Mountains Scheme, working at a senior level
in design, construction and planning. He joined SMEC on its establishment in
1970 and played a leading role in establishing the new organisation, both in
Australia and overseas. Doug is a Fellow of the Academy of Technological
Sciences and Engineering and an Honorary Fellow of the Institution of
Engineers, Australia. He has extensive experience in international
development and a strong background of community service.
